Enroute wants to exude a ‘very welcoming and extremely customer-friendly’ image in its dual Layers unit on the Waarderpolder business park on the northeast side of Haarlem. Whether it’s a teacher with burnout symptoms or a nurse with back complaints, this full-service absenteeism and re-integration specialist receives a highly diverse range of visitors. Based in three permanent locations (Haarlem, Amsterdam and Alkmaar) and nine flex locations, they serve employers and employees throughout the western Netherlands.
Enormous barrier
Director and employment expert Olaff Smit has more than 20 years of experience in providing guidance to people who are absent from their work and helping them re-integrate into the work process. “Being temporarily unable to do your job can make you feel ill at ease. And being obliged by your employer to visit an office that is supposed to help you get back on the rails, or perhaps even move to a different job, can pose an enormous barrier to many people. Serious conversations
Coaching is one of the most important tools used by Enroute, who employ eight permanent re-integration coaches plus another eight employed on a flexible basis. Much attention has been devoted to the coaching rooms, as this is often where the most ‘serious’ conversations take place. Since the company was founded, it has had its main office in Haarlem. They were previously based in Haarlem Noord but outgrew that location. The decision to buy from Layers was a quick one, says Olaff: “We had been looking around for some time because there are not that many options on the market for this type of company premises. With twice the surface area of our previous premises, the space and the attractive appearance of what Layers builds appealed to us straight away. Not to mention the favourable location. Our other branches can be reached quickly from here.”
IKEA…and customised
The new building was completed in September and, after a brief delay caused by a minor electricity network issue, the new occupants had fully relocated by January. Investments were made in two heat pumps, a heat recovery system and second walls, among other things. Where possible, they opted for smart, budget-friendly solutions for their design. For their kitchen, they selected a basic version from IKEA, which they then enhanced by combining it with customised cupboard doors. There were quite a few square metres to be filled but, by cleverly shopping at outlets and opting for refurbished furniture, they were able to acquire attractive items without giving their accountant heart failure.
Their slogan of ‘Enjoying being back at work’ certainly applies here every day! It’s like they are working from home!
