How we achieved a leading position in the Dutch real estate market for business premises in barely 10 years is a great story. Layers is part of Today Real Estate Development. Its founder, Max van Eck, started with a partner at the bottom of the real estate ladder by buying, renovating (sometimes themselves) and then selling properties. They made a reasonable success of it but the turning point came when they decided to build four new commercial properties as part of a project in Loosdrecht. They recoiled in horror at the “ugly, dull and monotonous” initial sketches.
That was the eureka moment in which they discovered a gap in the market. “Surely, no hard-working entrepreneur wants to show up to work at a hideous, dreary building every morning? You want to look forward to arriving at work in a building that conjures up a smile. A building that gives you energy and contributes to job satisfaction.”
So new sketches were made. This turned out to be a stroke of genius because the four brand-new premises were sold in one day. The name Layers had not even been conceived at that stage but it was clear that the concept was a great success. Further refinement was required because a building needs more than just good looks. To attain the coveted status of ‘genuine Layers’, location, scalability, configuration and choice of materials must also be taken into account. The success of our concept is now reflected in the more than 800 Layers units throughout the country, with many more being built.

Aref has been involved in the development of TODAY’s German business since day one. As Commercial Manager, he is responsible for the commercial side of the business, the nationwide acquisition of properties, and the strategic development of the company in the German market.
